So Brokeback Mountain is sad... | Pride Month Movie Reaction and Commentary

Alas, we can't have the highs in life without the lows, so it stands to reason that after doing a comedy for Pride last week, we had to do a tragedy this week. Brokeback Mountain has been on my watchlist for a long time, and I think we can all agree that even if you haven't seen it, it's impossible not to know anything about it. Just looking up the poster for the thumbnail, I came across countless memes, parodies, and commentaries.

What I didn't expect going into this movie, was how good it actually was. Perhaps that was naive of me, but it's genuinely been a while since a film not only exceeded my expectations, but actually lived up to its hype. Brokeback Mountain is a spectacular piece of filmmaking, and my little film student heart leapt each time it continued to prove that it deserves every bit of praise and renown it's received. Of course it's divisive, but that's the point. The goal is to make you think, feel, and carry it with you in the back of your mind, and considering it still pervades pop culture a decade and a half later, it most certainly succeeded.

Once again, I'm so glad I got to share this experience with you, and I hope my film theory lecture didn't put the back of the class to sleep 😉
