Virgil Roberts, the former president of Solar Records, discussed the record label's role in launching Death Row Records in this 2017 interview. He talked about being hired by Dick Griffey after initially planning to be a civil rights attorney. He also revealed the role he played in helping Suge Knight get Vanilla Ice's publishing rights for "Ice Ice Baby." Roberts detailed how Suge brought Dr. Dre and The D.O.C. into the fold and how they were able to get Dr. Dre out of Eazy-E's Ruthless Records deal.
