**READ HERE--IMPORTANT EXPLANATION*

How do you apply this effect to many files at once?

Crop the first clip to the 2:35:1 ratio as I showed you in the video (use your new preset to do so). Now copy the clip. Next, select the second clip up to the last clip you want to crop, and right click one of the clips. Now choose for the option PASTE EVENT ATTRIBUTES. All the other clips will have the same effects pasted onto them

Why don't I just render in that 1920x817 format instead of going to all that trouble to letterbox?
Two reasons: 1) Vegas can't render in that resolution, the closest it can get is 1920x820, and although it's just 3 pixels off, it can make a difference in formatting. 2) When you film a video, it's most likely going to be filmed in the 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratio. If you stretch the video, not only will it look silly, but it will also lose quality in the stretching process.

There are also downsides to the letterboxing format, as when you crop, you're chopping off a large chunk of the top and bottom of the video. If you haven't considered what the black bars will cut off when you record, you can end up removing an important person/object in your video that you want to leave in. Just keep the black bars in mind when you record and you should be fine.

Another first on YouTube. You're welcome.
