This new line project started at 2016. Total cost of the project at that time is 116.61 crores. Total distance is around 16.20 km.

State government deposited around 64 crores as 50: 50 cost sharing basis. Track laying work started from Chinna Salem . Earthwork and land levelling almost completed till Kallakurichi.

Likely track work will be completed in next 6 months. If everything goes well by next year this project will be completed and train service will start.

For the first time direct train service to Kallakurichi will be included in railway map.
