What is thalassemia?

Thalassemia is a genetic disorder that involves reduced production of red blood cells in babies. Within 6 months to 1 year of age, the haemoglobin count in the baby reduces.

Treatment for thalassemia

The baby should undergo a blood transfusion for thalassemia throughout its life. A bone marrow transplant can be a cure for this disease.
