Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And today, we're taking a look at the Tekonsha seven-way wiring with a brake controller adapter on a 2021 Ford Transit T-250. The Transit is a awesome work vehicle. Also, it's great for van life things. Either way, if you plan on pulling a trailer, it does have some pretty serious capacity. And a lot of those trailers are probably gonna have trailer or have brakes on them that you're gonna want to have a brake controller to be able to slow and stop that trailer accordingly, and that's where this kick comes into play.

This will allow you to have your seven-way, so you'll get all your light functions, but also the brake input for a brake controller. And normally in this situation, to get a brake controller work with these, you'd have to pick up an ETBC7 kit, which isn't really designed for this. And you also have to pick up a four-way plug for that like function to work. And this kit does a good job of combining all of that and making it to where you have your light functions plug and play, but also all the things necessary to get your brake controller to work. So the great part about this is you really don't have to do a ton of extra wiring or making your wires nice and clean because it comes in a harness that's pretty well set up for this vehicle.

So it really does just plug into the taillights. You will need to pick up a mount for your seven-way, but the rest of it just runs to the battery, which is under the driver's seat. And then you make your connections under the dash, and then you can plug in your brake controller. So that way when you hook up to your trailer, you'll have your running lights, your turn signals, your brake lights, as well as your brake controller. Now, this does come with a plug that works with Tekonsha brake controllers, and we used a Prodigy P3 today, which is a great option.

But if you wanna do something like a REDARC, you can get adapters necessary here at etrailer to be able to make that work all the same. Now, this is something you're gonna be underneath the vehicle routing those wires, and you do wanna just follow along with the diagram as well as this video to make sure you get it installed. And there's a few different ways that you can choose to route your wires, but the main parts of that installation, I'll cover in the video. It does get a little bit tight underneath the dash and maybe a little bit tricky as far as getting some of those wires ran cleanly, but overall, it's not too terribly hard to do. So follow along and I'll show you how to do it.

Now, before we begin the installation, I got my harness all unbundled, and there's a lot of wire here, but this sure makes it a lot easier. Generally, when you put a brake controller on the Transits, half of 'em seem to be prepped and you can plug and play, but really there's no way to determine right away whether yours has it or not. But this kit is going to solve that problem. Normally, when we run an ETBC7 kit, you're gonna have some duplex wire as well as some circuit breakers that you're gonna have to tie in, and it makes for a little bit more of a tedious installation and it still requires a four-pole, where this one really solves all those issues. It really is an ETBC7 with the taillight wiring all in place. So you kind of get the best of all worlds. And to break this down, it seems like a lot but it's pretty easy. So starting off with our yellow and brown wire, this is gonna plug into our taillights and become T-connector so we can get our lighting function. And it actually has a factory grommet that's gonna allow us to get this in nice and clean. This will route up from the bottom and eventually snap in. So we'll be taking those taillights out. We have our module, and this is the brains of the operation. It keeps everything protected. This will live underneath the vehicle. We also have a ground wire that we're gonna attach to somewhere on the frame to get our grounding. Now, as we follow this along, it goes into this T, you'll see that you have a long harness. If you pull this, you'll find the other end is going to be blue and green. And this is gonna go over to our passenger side and connect just the same as our yellow and brown. So that'll get our connection to our taillights. Now, also, off of our harness, you're gonna find that we have the larger diameter wire loom, this taped up portion. This is gonna be where eventually we attach to the block of our seven-pole and then eventually to our plug to get our seve
