Long before sold out European tour dates and critical acclaim from The Guardian , VCU Jazz alumnus Matthew E. White made a name for himself in Richmond through tireless local music promotion, music community organizing and performances with a number of pivotal local groups including Fight the (Big) Bull.

In fact it would be hard to find a performer or facet of the local musical economy untouched by White during his ten-and-counting years in Richmond. Building from the ground up, White, fellow VCU alums and local jazz performers created the Patchwork Collective and now Spacebomb Records to support the local music scene through import of great music and export of Richmond music to expand awareness on a global level.

After the international release of his debut solo LP, Big Inner, on Domino Records in January 2013, White invited The Horn RVA to visit his Near West End home studio on a snowy Spring Break afternoon to discuss touring worldwide, the next release for Spacebomb and why he's still at home in Richmond.
