You have met the concept of a Boolean expression; that is, an expression that evaluates to either TRUE or FALSE. You have also met comparison operators and the blocks that implement them in Sense. These operators, for example, less than, take numbers or strings as operands and evaluate to Boolean values, true and false in Sense. Hence they can be used to create Boolean expressions.

In this session you will look at other types of operators that can be used to create Boolean expressions: the Boolean operator. A Boolean operator takes one or more Boolean expressions as operands and evaluates to a Boolean value. In this way, Boolean operators combine simple Boolean expressions into more complex Boolean expressions.

This may sound quite complicated initially, but hopefully you’ll see that creating expressions in this way in Sense is actually very intuitive.

The blocks that implement Boolean operators in Sense can be found in the Boolean section of the Operators palette. As such blocks evaluate to Boolean values, they are hexagonal in shape. In addition, each of these blocks has one or more hexagonal recesses that accept another hexagonal block, such as a comparison block, as an operand.
