ThinkPad T580 Review

In total, the laptop cost me ~1250 dollars. The main selling points for me were the bigger screen, long battery life, and Lenovo's reputation for quality products. I didn't have any issues with shipping and delivery, which were very smooth.

Regardless, I am, overall, extremely disappointed by this laptop. I go through laptops really quickly and have owned more than seven laptops over the past few years, and this one is by far the most disappointing.

First, the battery life is nowhere remotely close to the advertised 27 hours. When I first got it, the total battery life was around 4-5 hours, but now it's closer to 2.5-3 hours. This is extremely disappointing as the advertised battery life was a huge selling point for me. While it's true that I should generally not take the advertised battery life for the actual battery life, my previous Macbook Pro had a far, FAR superior battery (8-10 hours) that was at least in the ballpark of the advertised battery life.
Second, the build quality is very flimsy. The main case seems to be made of cheap plastic which bends fairly easily. Even folding up and down the screen for normal use, I feel like I'm about to rip the screen apart into two pieces. I'm always afraid of putting it in my backpack because it seems like the internals would get crushed very easily.
Third, the TrackPad is extremely poor quality and borderline unusable. My previous two computers, a Macbook Pro and Samsung Notebook had at least usable trackpads, so that you could reasonably, for example, write your signature on an online sketch pad. It's almost impossible to do the same on my Thinkpad T580. The trackpad is small, not tactile at all, and awkward to use because the buttons are located above the trackpad.
As for pros, I will say that this laptop doesn't really heat up or get as loud as some laptops I've had previously, but that might be because it only has an Intel GPU and I haven't really tried performing any super graphics intense actions on it (as even old video games, like CSGO, are unplayable). Moreover, the keyboard is pretty fun to write on.
Conclusion: I really regret purchasing this laptop. I have heard good things about some other Thinkpads, like the X1 Carbon, and I wish Lenovo's return policy were better so that I could return this laptop or exchange it.
Design:
The T580 looks like an oversized version of other ThinkPad laptops with its matte-black finish, curved island-style keys, and silver branding on the deck and lid. Of course, it wouldn't be a ThinkPad without the iconic red trim around the touchpad clickers and the red rubber nub between the G and H keys.
