Chillenden Windmill is a Grade II listed building, built in 1868 and was fully functioning until 1949 when gale force winds took off one of its sails. Local residents raised enough money to weatherproof the mill, but they couldn't afford to fully restore it. It was sold to Kent County Council in 1957 and subsequently renovated at the cost of losing its machinery and barn. In 2003 high winds caused the windmill to collapse, but it was again restored and opened to the public in 2005.

There has been a windmill on this site since the 1300s for a very good reason: it's pretty windy! I only had the Spark with me today, and it's the first time I've flown it in gusty conditions (approx. 18mph winds), but I have to say it handled it nicely. It was buffeted about a few times, but it really wasn't bad for a 2 axis gimbal. Plucky little drone!
