The City of Abilene has introduced a proposal to raise fares for City Link buses, a plan presented by the city's Department of Transportation at the Mayor’s Advisory Board for People with Disabilities meeting on September 9.

If approved, the fare increase will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase beginning on November 3. The final fare increase is scheduled for October 1, 2026.

The proposed changes include the elimination of the adult weekly pass and a total increase of $16 for the adult monthly pass. Currently priced at $45, the adult monthly pass would rise to $53 this November and reach $61 by October 2026.

The city also note that all passes purchased prior to November 3, 2025 will be valid until September 30,2026.

The increase is the first since 2017 for the public transportation system.

City Council members are set to hear an initial report on the proposed increases during a meeting on October 9. A final hearing and vote on the issue will occur on October 23. Public comments will take place at this meeting, as well.

If the proposal is approved during the October 23 meeting, the first increases will be implemented on November 3 as planned.
