Do we really need teachers anyway.

My name is Mat. I am a regular guy in my forties with a full time job and a family just trying to not retire broke. My mom was a teacher for over three decades maybe closer to four. And I can say without hesitation that teaching is one of the most underpaid and underappreciated professions in this country.

It is not just the pay. It is how underfunded the classrooms are.

I have a seven year old in first grade. Her school is constantly emailing parents for donations and fundraisers. Her classroom literally has an Amazon wishlist because they cannot afford basic supplies. That is insane.

When I watch videos like this even when the guy is joking there is a lot of truth underneath it.

My mom raised two kids on a teacher’s salary for part of my childhood. We scraped by. I honestly do not know how she pulled it off. The only reason she is comfortable now is because she was disciplined. She saved. She planned. She thought ahead.

She did not teach me investing directly. But she taught me responsibility by example. And because of that I do not have to worry about supporting her financially.

Now that I have a daughter that matters to me more than anything.

I want to retire comfortably for myself sure. But more importantly I never want to be a financial burden on my child. That is one of the biggest reasons retirement has become so important to me.

I share these stories so hopefully you do not retire broke and do not end up stressing out your kids either.
