Icons separated from the normal liturgical use become hollow. Their value is determined by their visual ability to invite the viewer into the mystical, the same way liturgy brings the congregation to the fullness of one sacred moment. The icons on the floor intend to make the viewer question the value of icons and the idea of walking on sacred ground. Hollowed by the hours and hours of work it took to produce sacred image, its historical imagery and contemporary witness. The icons portray a moment of promise to the viewer, one icon at a time together they are the fabric which covers the ground of who I thought I was. I promised to try and be faithful and live in Christ in this life, I invite you to stop and see, to stand as witness, watch and reflect; this was difficult day.
