The Blue Fugates or Blue People of Kentucky were a real Kentucky Appalachian family in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries whose rare genetic condition turned their skin an unmistakeable shade of blue. This video discusses the family, their isolation in Kentucky's Appalachian mountains, the discrimination and prejudice they faced in their community, and their inbreeding due to a lack of available marriage partners.
