When Crested Butte closed last season I used one of my Monarch days at the Purgatory Resort. This resort is located 35 minutes outside Durango. There are 1600 skiable acres at this resort and they have some of the best groomers I have ever skied. The terrain park is also really impressive here. Purgatory is a great family area with terrain for just about anyone and offers great skiing in the San Juan mountains at a fraction of the cost of Telluride.
