There are many options for testing a DSC NEO and the attached components after you've installed it, and in today's video we're covering 2 of the most common. Keep in mind the BEST way to test an alarm system is to arm the system and trigger an alarm using the sensors. Outside of that however are a few simple built-in tests that work well during the installation process.

First is the wireless placement test. This test is specifically for wireless devices after they have been enrolled on the panel and set to a specific zone. The test is performed in programming allowing you to test the signal strength of each wireless device. This test can be performed with any wireless sensor on the NEO and provides 2 data metrics. The first is the signal strength at the time of testing, and the second is the average signal strength of a given device over a 24 hour period. To receive the second metric you will need to wait at least 24 hours after you have enrolled your sensors.

The second test is the walk test. The walk test allows you to make sure your sensors are operating as designed. This test can be performed on both wired and wireless sensors. All the walk test does is watch for triggers from your sensors and emits a buzzer from the keypad when one is triggered. It cannot tell you what sensor was triggered or any other info besides the fact that a sensor triggered. This can be useful to check wired connections and ensuring that a zone is enabled and communicating with the panel. After performing the walk test it is always advised you alarm your system so you can verify the zone shows properly during an alarm event.
