Here it is! The comparison we promised a few weeks back! In this video Lucas pits the Boss Nextone amplifier (with its Tube Logic Technology) against boutique hand wired versions of 6V6 and EL84 amps from his own arsenal. This experiment is done out of Lucas's own curiosity, and to ask the question how much of a difference do you (the viewers of this channel) hear with these 3 examples with 3 different guitars.
The amps:
1) The 80W 1x12 Nextone Artist uses what Boss calls "Tube Logic" technology to mimic 4 tube types, as well as clipping/sag characteristics in a transistor platform. Within the Nextone we have access to 6V6, 6L6, EL84 and EL34 Tube simulation modes, as well as many other interesting features such as switchable boost, built in reverb and delay, channel switching, and power scaling.
2) The Vintage Sound Vintage 20 is a 20W tube hand wired amplifier made by Rick Hayes out of Florida. It is based on the Black Face AA1164 Fender Circuit with a Warehouse WGS G12C/S speaker. Controls are Volume, treble, middle, bass, reverb, speed and intensity for the tube driven tremolo, and dwell for the reverb. 5R4 rectifier, 2 6V6 power tubes (can be subbed out for 6L6), 3 12AX7, 1 12AT7 preamp tubes, and adjustable Bias points.
3) The Kingsley Bailey is a 30W cathode biased tube combo made by Simon Jarrett out of British Columbia. The amp has controllable negative feedback and a Celestion G12H 30 Speaker. Controls are for volume, reverb, tone, treble, mid, bass and master volume. The combo has a 5AR4 rectifier tube, four EL84s, and three 12ax7s in the pre-amplifier. It also has a 3-way EQ mode switch, a 3 way gain switch, and a 3-way power switch (full, half and quarter power).

How much of a difference did you hear? Are you, like Lucas, not ready to get rid of your tube amps yet, or are you a proponent of the versatility that the Boss Nextone has to offer? Let your voice be heard in the comment section below!
