Basket Strainers :- Basket strainers are designed to remove larger particles and debris from the fluid flow.

They are typically installed in a pipeline where the fluid flow is high and the debris is large.

Basket strainers are named after their design, which includes a basket-shaped filter element that captures the debris.

Basket Strainers are divided into two types:

Simple Design : Here during cleaning the strainer has to be removed out of service.

Duplex design : Here the cleaning can be done online and the bypass will handle the flow so the operation is undisturbed.

Cone Strainers

Cone strainers are named after their shape, which resembles a cone. They are typically installed in a pipeline where the fluid flow is high and the debris is small. Cone strainers are designed to capture small particles and debris that can cause damage to equipment downstream.


Truncated Cone Strainers

Truncated cone strainers are similar to cone strainers in that they are designed to capture small particles and debris from the fluid flow. However, truncated cone strainers have a different shape, with a wider base and a narrower top. This design allows for a larger surface area for the filter element, which increases the strainer's efficiency.

1) For Temporary application Cone type and Truncated Cone type are usually used.

3) Online Cleaning : If the flow line should remain undisturbed then Duplex Basket type is used since it has a bypass provision so in-line cleaning becomes easy.

4) Pressure Drop : Y -Strainers produce higher pressure drop as compared to Basket Strainers.

5) Dirt capacity : Y strainers have low capacity for dirt storage and hence require more frequent cleaning as compared to Basket Strainer.

6) Cost : As per above consideration Y strainers are comparatively less costly as compared to Basket Strainers.
