Pressure-Swing Distillation to separate Ethanol-Water Mixture | Aspen HYSYS | Lecture # 27

Описание к видео Pressure-Swing Distillation to separate Ethanol-Water Mixture | Aspen HYSYS | Lecture # 27

Learn how to use pressure-swing distillation technique to separation ethanol-water mixture. This technique makes use of two columns, operating at different pressures to cause separation of the mixture, which are not easy to separate using conventional distillation scheme. Problem Statement:

A feed mixture consisting of 20 mol% ethanol, and 80 mol% water is fed to the low-pressure column at 1.2 bar, 65 °C, and a mass flowrate of 24,000 kg/h.

LP Column: 30 stages, 25th feed stage, condenser and reboiler pressure as 0.1 bar. 99% recovery of ethanol, and 90 mol% ethanol in the top of the LP column.

Pump: the top product of LP column is pumped to high-pressure column at 20 bar.

HP Column: 75 stages, 40th feed stage, condenser and reboiler pressure as 20 bar. 99 mol% ethanol in the bottom, bottom product flowrate as 200 kgmole/h.

Recycle stream with the following specifications:
(vapor fraction = 0; pressure = 1.2 bar; flowrate = 400 kgmole/h, 90 mol% ethanol, and 10 mol% water).
