A Syncopated 32nd Note Linear Drum Fill & Busy Groove!

In this week’s Drums By Liz lesson we dig into a syncopated concept that we’ll apply across 8th, 16th, and 32nd notes—all over a slower-paced groove with a tasty, busy feel.

I walk you through multiple press-roll approaches, then we embellish the groove by doubling select snare notes. Quick doublings + press rolls = a crisp, musical texture that also strengthens your usually neglected weak side (our old nemesis… lol).

We then break down a 32nd-note fill in detail so it finally makes sense:
• the mechanics and movement
• the math & counting
• a clear sticking (including the standard sticking to notice)
• how the bass-drum pattern supports the phrase

You’ll also learn to isolate, invert your hands, shift ideas across the barline, and then do the reciprocal. Master the sticking and you’ll feel the cool back-and-forth flow and the “gives-back” reciprocity of the pattern.
