An eventful week in Weatherfield. Councillor Deirdre Barlow lends her support to 'The Brewery' Newton & Ridley whilst in typical corrupt local government style profiting from the sale of Number 1 Coronation Street to become part of a larger and newly refurbished Rovers Return as a theme pub. Meanwhile landlord and landlady Bet & Alec Gilroy are offered the depressingly rundown Quarryman's Arms. They refuse to budge and make a stand. Jack Duckworth is left in Wales as Vera returns home and we face the battle of the bubble-cuts between Deirdre and Liz McDonald. Curly becomes engaged to Kimberley to the delight of Mummy & Daddy and the dismay of Mr Holdsworth.
