Day 3 - Canisbay Lake to Linda Lake

Total distance = 6.5 kms
Portages = 2
Portage total distance = 3.5 kms

This was a great little trip we did in Algonquin Provincial Park. We spent 4 nights canoeing this loop, starting at access #7 on Source Lake. Our canoe was rented from Algonquin Outfitters and was a featherlight 16 foot swift Prospector canoe, that we absolutely loved. In this video you see us travel from Canisbay Lake, through Polly Lake and then into Linda Lake where we spent our third night.

We were so glad we were able to get our pack weights lowered for this day as we covered more distance on foot across portages than we did in the actual canoe. We packed up early from our site on Canisbay to get out on the water while there was still a little fog over the water. The first portage into Polly lake was the longest of our entire trip and we were eager to get it done and over with. We spent some time fishing as we paddled across Polly and were lucky to catch some small smallmouth bass. Once on Linda we scouted out some campsites and settled on the island site where we had lunch and got our tent setup. The rest of the day was spent fishing, relaxing, swimming and more fishing.

If your new to backcountry canoe camping, this might be a good route to get your feet wet....perhaps that is a poor choice of words. This may be a good beginner route, as the days are quite short in distance and you are never far from people. However, it really did still have a remote feel to it (which is what we wanted), even though we were never far from Highway 60. The only downside to this route is the amount and length of the portages. When your new to canoe camping, it can be hard to single carry across a portage, which is what we were successfully able to do.
