So, as it goes with timeswitches, the most common types are 24 hour and 7 day versions. This oddity is neither. :D Let's look. :D


Now, being Wayne's Electrical, this time switch fits right in, because not only do I document electrical bits and pieces from the usual-end-of-things, but also the more bizarre stuff too.

This is right at the bizarre end of things. YAY. :D


So, what would anyone want with a 1-hour timeswitch?

Yep.... One hour, or 60 minutes. That is all. The clock face on this one goes around one full turn every 60 minutes.

Characteristics:

single phase, 240v, 50Hz, 20A switching capacity. Single Pole.

Really, this timer could be used where an electrical load needs to be turned on-and-off very frequently. So frequently in fact, that this one has two pairs of switching togs!

So, thinking on it, what kind of application could these be used for?

Well, this device can switch 20A of load, and that is equivalent to 4,800 watts at 240v.

Of course, this could be up-rated if this timer switched a contactor.... especially a three-phase contactor!

Take for example, a large warehouse. A typical example of this being used is where frequent air-changes might be needed. This could switch on large air extraction fans twice every hour for ten minutes.

Of course, it is perfectly possible to re-arrange the togs so that only one on-and-off operation per 60 minutes takes place. So even then, in the example above, the large extraction fans could be operated hourly for ten minutes.

Perfectly possible and feasible application of these timeswitches. There had to be a certain reason and application for these where Sangamo had the need to mass-produce them!
