In this test/tutorial we will look at the recording quality of an entry-level USB audio interface from Steinberg.

First, I will connect a dynamic microphone to the mic input, the Shure SM58, then we compare that to an AKG microphone with a supercardioid pickup pattern, and a budget condenser mic from Tonor which uses the 48V phantom power.

After listening to the sound test you will have an idea of how these three types of microphones sound when using the Steinberg audio interface.

Finally, I will briefly summarize the benefits of this very nicely designed interface. For beginners who want to try recording audio at home, be it podcasting, live-streaming, or recording an instrument, the Steinberg UR12 will do a good job because it offers 24 Bit/192 kHz recording and good sound quality.
