The 6th of March 2021 saw Steamrail Victoria's mainline heritage tours return after over a year of not running due to the ongoing troubles with the COVID-19 Pandemic. In this case S313 was rostered to run Solo to Seymour and back to celebrate a slightly late 60th birthday. T356 also assisted with the transfer services to and from Newport.

The tour ran with Victorian S Class Streamliner Locomotives S313, which entered service on the 27th of February 1961 as part of the second order of S Class Locomotives. It ran for Victorian Railways (as ordered), VicRail, and V/line before finding itself with Steamrail Victoria in the 1990s(?). It carried a few mock up liveries before having the VR Blue and Gold reapplied to represent the locomotive's original looks in 2011 here in Seymour. Fitted with an EMD 567C Prime Mover, the locomotive made good noise throughout the day and also helped by the fact it was running solo and had to climb multiple grades.
T356 also assisted the tour from Newport to Southern Cross and return. S313 can't lead rear end first on the mainline. The locomotive was built as part of the second order of T class locomotives with a high nose compared to its "flattop" first order t class. Entering service as an early Christmas present in December 1959, its prime mover is also an EMD 567, providing slightly less horsepower than the S but more than the Y class which was originally on the tour. Some people got a big angry over no Y class but oh well.

The journey left Melbourne Southern Cross heading up the Cragieburn line up Glenroy bank, then on the straighter track through Donnybrook and Wallan before curving up the great dividing range into Heathcote Junction before heading onto Seymour through Kilmore East, Broadford and Tallarook before returning an hour or so after Seymour arrival.

We see the train at Spotswood transfering empty cars to Melbourne and then arriving into seymour before seeing it at the turntable then getting ready to and departing Seymour. Sorry for the very odd chase plan. A friend's commitments and the train running an hour late made our plans differ. I am still happy with the shots i got.
