After a whirlwind couple of weeks that saw Team Canada’s most successful performance ever, the 33rd Olympic summer games in Paris have officially come to an end. Athletes and spectators from around the world gathered for the closing ceremonies in the French capital, celebrating an Olympics that has been nothing short of exciting. Crystal Goomansingh has the details.

For the French, who had just come off a divisive legislative election, it was a moment of unity and national pride, as well as a showcase to the rest of the world. There were 9.5 million tickets sold to Olympic events, with spectators travelling to Paris from all over the world. Nearly 850 medals were awarded, including 27 to Canada. At its peak, there were nearly 12,000 athletes gathered at the Olympic Village, where 4,000 pastries, 600 baguettes, and 3,000 muffins were served every day. Redmond Shannon recounts the successful Olympics run for Canada, France, and the world.

In Quebec, several municipalities remain under a state of emergency after post-tropical storm Debby dumped record amounts of rain across the province. Two days after the storm, thousands of residents remain without electricity and many are just starting to pump out flooded homes and basements. Matilda Cerone reports.

Ukrainian troops have advanced close to 30 kilometres inside Russia, six days after their surprise military incursion. For the first time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has acknowledged the attack that is aiming to push the war into Russia's territory. Joe Scarpelli has the latest.

In the heart of British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley is an industry that faces a bitter crisis. In a shock to local farmers, the B.C. Tree Fruit Cooperative has shut its doors. The closure leaves many farmers without a distribution channel or storage options, meaning fruit that can't be packed or sold may simply go to waste. The province has promised support, including an emergency task force and a list of alternative packing facilities. However, many of these facilities are already at full capacity.
