Wim Wenders film Paris, Texas - and book, Written in the West

THIS VIDEO: I saw the film, Paris, Texas in the early eighties – it was a real revelation. Vim Venders was also a well-regarded photographer. His photo-series Written in the West was exhibited at the Centre Pompedou in 1986 – that’s a big deal – it is like being shown at MOMA in the US. The images were taken during a recce trip that Wenders went on in 1983. He travelled across Texas, California, Arizona, and New Mexico, to look for potential filming locations and sources of inspiration. Like so many photographers who become directors, Wenders maintains a photographer’s eye.
