The Five Laws of Library Science were enunciated for the first time in 1928 in a conference of teachers held in the Meenakshi College, Annmalainagar by the late Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Librarian of the University of Madras. The Five Laws of Library Science published in the book in 1931. Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, replaced terms ‘Books’, ‘Reader’, ‘Library’, as ‘Document’, ‘User’, ‘Information’ respectively. The five laws are detailing the principles of operating a library system. Ranganathan's Five Laws of Library Science are a set of norms, precepts and guides to good practices in librarianship. These laws are also valid guides to practices in the wider area of documentation and information systems and services. The outcome of this line of thinking is of 'Ranganathan was the formal enunciation of the Five Laws of Library Science.
