Balkans 2/6: Novi Sad, Serbia

Описание к видео Balkans 2/6: Novi Sad, Serbia

I am in Europe on an epic tour of the Balkans: Serbia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosov (note). The Balkan region was ruled by the Byzantine Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire and communism in different eras of history. There are different races, religions and cultures across the Balkans, which will definitely fascinate any history-loving travelers. But at the same time, the racial and religious conflicts also turned the Balkans into the powder keg of Europe.

(Note: Serbia considers Kosovo part of its territory. Today roughly half of countries in the world recognize Kosovo as a country, the other half don't.)

After spending some time in the beautiful Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, I want to visit Novi Sad. About 100km north of Belgrade, Novi Sad is the capital of autonomous province Vojvodina. Since 2022, Novi Sad and Belgrade are connected by a high-speed railway, which was built by the Chinese and a section of the "Balkan Silk Road" in China's bold one-belt-one-road initiative. Compared to the rest of Serbia, this region was ruled by the Austro-Hungarian Empire much longer and by the Ottoman Empire much shorter. Therefore the scenery should be more like Central Europe.
