OTC: Benadryl Spray

Описание к видео OTC: Benadryl Spray

Is there an itch in your life that’s making it hard to do the things you want or need to do? I’ll be talking to you about diphenhydramine, a medication that helps with itching and pain related to bug bites, sunburn, rashes from poison ivy, oak, sumac, as well as minor cuts and burns.

Diphenhydramine is an over-the-counter antihistamine sold under the brand name Benadryl. Benadryl is available as a liquid, capsule, tablet, cream or spray, and today, I’ll be focusing on the spray. The spray contains 2% diphenhydramine and should not be used on patients younger than 2 years old.

Since there are so many Benadryl products, you might be asking yourself, how would I know which one is right for me? You will typically use the spray if you experience itching, skin irritation, or rash. You will typically not use the spray if you experience symptoms like sneezing, watery eyes, or a runny nose. In this case, oral benadryl may be preferred. When using the spray, always follow the package instructions, unless otherwise indicated by your doctor or pharmacist. Spray the affected area no more than three to four times a day, while avoiding eye contact. Do not use on large areas of the body or on chickenpox or measles. Avoid use if you are concurrently taking any other forms of diphenhydramine.

When using the diphenhydramine spray, be sure to watch for side effects such as hives, worsening skin conditions, and increased sensitivity to the sun. Stop using this medication if you experience tightness in the chest or throat, trouble breathing, or swelling. These symptoms can indicate an allergic reaction. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of these mentioned side effects. Contact your healthcare provider if topical use is needed for more than 7 days.

In summary, diphenhydramine is sold under the brand name Benadryl and is used to treat itchiness or pain. It should be sprayed to the affected area no more than 3 to 4 times a day, and you should stop using this product if you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction or if you don’t get better when using this product. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist today if you have any further concerns.
