What a 14-year-old did, nearly 40 years ago still applies to business today.

When I was 14, I ran the fastest 800 meters of my year at school and the interesting thing was, I wasn't even the fastest runner in my class! So how did I do that? When we would run the 800 meters before, that's two times around the track, what tended to happen was everyone would just run slowly for the first circuit and then gradually pick up speed towards the end of the race so, it was a massive sprint at the end. Now, two weeks before this race I'd been to my sister's sports day and I'd witnessed something quite amazing. I'd seen someone run fast from the very start and she won the race and I thought, that model looks good, I'm going to copy that and so I did, So I just set off at a massive pace, all my contemporaries stuck to what they knew they stuck to how they would run it in the past, probably thinking, “oh yes we'll catch Nick no problem at all”. Well, a lap in and I'm a good 200 meters in front of everyone. They might have started picking up the pace, I don't know, I wasn't really looking back but, I just ran my little heart out for both laps and I was a good 100 meters clear at the end of the race. I just looked at a model and made it work for me. I just copied it, saw what worked copied it did the same thing and that's what we do in business. We can model our ads on other people's ads. We could see what ads are working for other people, we can see which videos are generating views and getting engagement that other people are running and some of our competitors are running, some of your competitors are running and we can model them. We're not reinventing the wheel, we are just seeing what people actually want to see and replicating it but, from our own perspective. That's how we do it in business and that's how we can do it for you.
