As the sun peeked out from behind morning clouds, former President Donald Trump took to the microphone at his golf course on the cliffs of Ranchos Palos Verdes to lambast Gov. Gavin Newsom and Vice President Kamala Harris for their handling of local landslides, crime and immigration.

Trump called California “a mess” and said that the state and federal government are “missing in action” when it comes to helping residents impacted by the reactivation of an ancient landslide complex on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

The spokesperson for Harris-Walz 2024, James Singer, swung back in a Friday morning statement dismissing the “bizarre” press conference as a “rambling, defensive, often incoherent event to promote his golf course.“

Donald Trump held his first post-debate press conference at his Los Angeles–area golf club, but he didn’t have much of anything to announce. Instead, he mostly read a prepared speech repeating dozens of criticisms of Kamala Harris, complained about the moderators of the debate, and reiterated racist attacks on migrants residing in Springfield, Ohio, and elsewhere — though he notably abstained from further promoting baseless cat-and-dog-eating conspiracy theories about the community. He also took questions from reporters — about his extremist campaign companion Laura Loomer, the downturn in Trump Media stock, and several other topics.
