During the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season, autonomous Ocean Gliders were deployed in the Caribbean Sea to record and transmit data used to improve hurricane forecasts and ocean models. This video shows the gliders in action in the waters of the US and British Virgin Islands and Anguilla, and has commentary by collaborating ocean scientists and participating University of the Virgin Islands students.

Funding for the film was provided by the US Integrated Ocean Observing System (US IOOS) through the Caribbean Coastal and Ocean Observing System (CARICOOS) and Ocean and Coastal Observing – Virgin Islands (OCOVI).

Production, including direction, cinematography, and editing, was by Dan Mele of the University of the Virgin Islands as part of the Master of Marine and Environmental Science Program. Support for the field work was provided by US NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, CARICOOS OCOVI, and Rutgers University and the G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation as part of the International Glider Challenger Mission.
