That’s the reality for many Jewish Americans (and Israelis) who often were indoctrinated with propaganda about Israel’s moral goodness and right to occupy Palestinian land. From attending birthright, despite Palestinians not having a right to return to their homeland, to astroturfed college campus campaigns, it can be difficult for people who have grown up being fed a certain line about Israel to comprehend the historic and current realities of occupation and genocide. In fact, many will bend over backwards to maintain Israel’s goddess and righteousness even when the IDF commits international war crimes against civilians, medical personnel and journalists.We spoke with Simone Zimmerman of IfNotNow, a group of American Jews organizing to end U.S. support for Israel's apartheid, about her personal journey to anti-Zionist organizing and empathy for others on their journey. Further, we discuss how Israel and American politicians’ line that only Israel can provide “safety for the Jews” does not make anyone, including Jewish people, safer.
