Firefighters were called to a mobile home fire Christmas day, just before dark. Neighbors called 911 and reported flames coming from a mobile home in the 17900 block of Deer Glen West Drive in the Deer Glen Subdivision located near FM 1485 and FM 3083 in East Montgomery County. The first units were dispatched at 5:26 PM and arrived within 6 minutes to find a mobile home fully involved in fire. Firefighters from the New Caney, Central Montgomery County, New Caney, Splendora, Caney Creek  and Porter Fire Departments were able to bring the fire under control within about 15 minutes, and located the deceased victim in the home’s bathroom. The victim is believed to be the lone female occupant of the home at the time of the fire.

MCFMO Fire Investigators are on scene at this time, along with Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 Judge James Metts. Judge Metts has ordered the victim to be transported to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. MCFMO Investigators will be continuing the investigation at the scene and will participate in the autopsy in an effort to determine how the fire started and confirm the victim’s identity and cause of death.

There are no other reported injuries and family members are being notified at this time. The 69-year-old victim’s identity will be released once all family members are notified. Initial reports indicate that the victim was home alone at the time of the fire and the home did not have any working smoke detectors.
