This talk will cover fundamentals of modern machine learning and artificial intelligence, with the primary goal of giving some intuition for how best to use advanced language models (ChapGPT, Gemini, Claude, Llama, etc).

Joey will dive into topics such as high-dimensional semantic embeddings and next word prediction. If time provides, we’ll also discuss language model “alignment” to human values and notions of fairness in machine learning, which are likely to have broad impact in diverse fields including education.
