Mortgage demand in the US fell for the 4th consecutive week. Demand for loans for home purchases has now fallen in 9 out of the last 10 weeks, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA). This is likely due to a fallout in demand from affordability pressures (average monthly mortgage payment increase of approximately $600 more per month compared to one year ago). The MBA’s composite index (a measure of loan applications for purchases plus refinances) is currently at the lowest levels in decades.
