🌊 Guangdong Floods – Southern China Underwater

Guangdong, the economic heart of southern China, is drowning under an unprecedented deluge. Entire cities, villages, and farmlands now lie submerged, as torrential monsoon rains drive rivers like the Suijiang to their highest levels on record.

In Huaiji County, the Suijiang River surged to a staggering 55.22 meters—well above its danger line—transforming roads into rivers and cutting off entire communities. More than 118,000 households plunged into darkness, while across the province, over 300,000 people have been affected. At least 70,000 residents were urgently evacuated, as floodwaters tore through homes, vehicles, and farmland.

🚨 On the Ground:
Rescue teams are navigating deadly currents in inflatable boats, pulling families from second-story windows and rooftop shelters. But the sheer scale of destruction has left many communities devastated, their livelihoods washed away in hours.

🌍 A Larger Crisis:
This catastrophe echoes similar disasters in Hunan, Yunnan, and even Beijing, a stark reminder that climate change is amplifying East Asia’s monsoon fury. Aging dams, unprepared cities, and fragile infrastructure are being tested like never before.
