Pingyao County, is affiliated to Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province. It is located in the central part of Shanxi Province and southwest of Jinzhong City.
Pingyao County is one of the second batch of famous historical and cultural cities in China. On December 3, 1997, Pingyao Ancient City was listed as a World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. It is also known as the oldest surviving city in China along with the Ancient City of Lijiang in Yunnan, the Ancient City of Langzhong in Sichuan, and the Ancient City of She County in Anhui.
