Rigging The Jester Contingency Anchor | How To

Looking at purchasing a Totem to Practice: https://northwashoutfitters.square.si...

We all know that the Rappels in a slot canyon is the bottle neck of the whole day. With us waiting around for the group to one by one rappel down, it takes time. The longer the rappel, the longer it takes. When Canyoneering in larger groups, or you find yourself running short on time, or you just want to get out of the canyon faster, you have to look at ways of speeding up the rappels and getting the group through those points faster. Using a contingency anchor is always a good idea. You never know when something is going to go wrong. Especially when haste is being made and the group is trying to move faster, this is when mistakes get made. You want to keep the Contingency anchor option available and still move quicker. Try using a Jester rigged through a Totem rappel and rigging device. The Jester allows the group to keep the contingency anchor option while allowing one person to be rappelling and a second person to be rigging in and getting ready to go as soon as the other person is down. This speeds up the time it takes. It the anchor is bomber enough, you could even rappel two people down at the same time (this however negates the contingency option until the other side is free).
Remember it's always best to practice in a safe environment first before attempting techniques in canyon and away from rescue and help. Be safe out there and have a great canyon day!
