The Nobel Peace Prize & Nuclear Legacies: The 80th Anniversary of Alamogordo & Hiroshima

This program honors Nihon Hidankyo, recipient of the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize, recognizing the organization’s decades-long advocacy for the abolition of nuclear weapons and its dedication to amplifying the voices of atomic bomb survivors.
The evening brought together speakers committed to remembrance, justice, and peace, reflecting on the moral and historical legacies of nuclear warfare and the ongoing global call for disarmament.

Myrriah Gómez, Author of Nuclear Nuevo México and Associate Professor, University of New Mexico

Their conversation explored the intersections of history, memory, and activism — connecting the experiences of Hiroshima survivors to the nuclear legacies of the American Southwest and the shared human responsibility for peace.
