Product Review - Sangean CL-100 Weather Radio - Part 2

This is part 2 of 3. In Part 1 I go through the unboxing and my give my initial impression of the radio. In part 2 I go over a few of the features and check the reception of the radio on comparison with my Grundig Sattelit 800. Part 3 will be recorded after I have been using the radio for at least a month.

I have now been using the radio for about a week. I turned on the alert for the weekly test and it worked great. It alerted me, and then started playing the weather channel immediately so I could hear what was going on. It was very cool. I have gotten much better reception using one of the insulated copper wire "T" shape antennas you plug in then hang on the wall. It lets me receive nearly every channel I can get inside, even under a metal roof. I take it outside on battery power all the time and I have only used up about half of the power in my 2500mAh AA rechargeable batteries. I still give this radio a 4.5/5. The only thing that would give it a 5/5 would be the addition of one alternative power source. For example the addition of a nice dynamo or fold out solar panel would make this radio much more useful in an extended emergency and up the value for me by about 25%. I just ordered a PowerFilm AA Battery folding solar charging panel. I will let you know how it works out in a similar product review. I also just received a bunch of Sanyo Eneloop rechargeables so I will review them too after using them for awhile.
