A Year In A Rainforest: Engineering For Survival - Matthew Dodkins - ACCU 2022

Journey with me far into the Amazon rainforest, as we explore engineering techniques to help you write programs that will run forever. Sometimes you need a system that will just keep going... With remote or otherwise inaccessible deployments, especially so.

This interactive talk will be focused around practical coding techniques to help you avoid crafting a clever brick. Bootloaders, watchdogs, exceptions and other run-time faults are all on the menu. If you care about the longevity of your program's runtime, there will be something for you.

Matthew Dodkins

Matthew is a 3rd generation programmer who specialises in the low-level coding of embedded systems. He is an expert at Bluefruit Software in Cornwall, coaching developers working on medical and other critical systems, and a freelance consultant for Chelonia Ltd., working on dolphin and bat detectors used for conservation purposes. He is also working on the greatest hardware sequencer in the known universe.

Outside of programming, he enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a surprising cerebral martial art, unconventional weight lifting, Go (the board game, not the programming language) and non-trivial conversations.
