I've been having good luck listing items that I'm not 100% sure of the value by first listing them at auction. I set the starting price at what I would of made the buy it now price. This way, if I'm off on the starting price, the item will hopefully get a bid. If the listing ends without a bid, I relist it at a fixed price set to what the item did not sell for the first time around.
