Today I finally managed to taste my first Peter’s Honey fig of the season, this one is growing in container and in the shade, California shade, lol. I had to cover my figs in clam shells, you can see one that wasn’t completely covered and the birds poke through, half eaten.
As a fig newbie, I hadn’t realized I've been eating Brebas from this tree for years, then last year I did a severe pruning and removed about 2 inches thick of circling roots. It bounced back with a lot of new shoots this year.
So this is a main fig of PH and I think it’s caprified, aka I must have the wasp.
The brebas of this variety are more honey yellow inside, not as pink as the one I ate today.
I also have another tree of this variety in the ground, why, I totally forgot I already bought one, lol. However, it was also prune hard last year and is growing in a very ugly area TBTH, all clay, but it’s growing so maybe I will get some figs later in the year.
