STORY: In 1978, Cleon and Vermin are in a gang, lead by Virgil, called the Destroyers. Virgil sends Cleon and Vermin to drug deal with the Satan Mothers; however, the deal is revealed to be a set-up. The duo narrowly escape, and Cleon swears revenge against Virgil, forming a new gang the Warriors. A year later, Rembrandt a graffiti artist, joins the Warriors, but moments later their turf is subsequently raided by the Destroyers. Although they recruit their fellow members, their hangout is sprayed; Cleon tells Rembrandt to spray the Destroyers turf and as he is already finishing, Vermin gives Rembrandt the idea of spraying their hangout, in which he does, which enrages Virgil, who swears revenge against his rivals.
Cyrus, the Gramercy Riffs leader, the powerful gang in New York City, is planning to have a meeting to unite the gangs and control the city as one. The Warriors begin to gain power and establish themselves as the predominant gang. The Warriors confront a low-class gang the Orphans, and their leader Sully. Rembrandt takes part in a spraying competition in Soho to their victory and makes an alliance with Scopes. The Warriors murder the Hi-Hats leader, Chatterbox, for attempting to invade their territory after his gallery was trashed by the Warriors, after being double-crossed, following the Showdown.
Shorty afterwards, the Destroyers return to Coney Island to raid their stores, but the Warriors disposes of them; however, they receive news from Tony that Ash has been murdered by the Destroyers and his vest is removed. The body is revealed as a bait to trap Cleon and Swan. The Destroyers desperate attempt to kill them fails and the duo narrowly escape. The latter becomes further enraged, and decides to declare war against them to gain control over Coney Island. Meanwhile, an increasingly paranoid Virgil sends his men to kill the Warriors, while he heads down to the shack for supplies. Arriving to the Destroyers hangout, the Warriors beat them to death, only to discover Virgil isn't in and they spot his lieutenant, L.C. Having stalked L.C and hitting him on the wall, Cleon and Vermin confront Virgil and engage in a brutal fight. The two manage to have the upper hand, leading to their victory and escaping, but Virgil is killed in the building fire.
Through Cleon, Cowboy meets the Saracens leader, Edge, who is willing to secure the Warriors a place in the Riffs network, to set-up their rivals, the Jones Street Boys. After their success, the big time finally hits Rembrandt, when he finally takes the Warriors "all-city", with the help of his friend, Scopes.
On the night of the meeting, the gangs meet up in Van Courtland Park. Cyrus proposes the assembled crowd a permanent citywide truce that would allow the gangs to control the city. Most of the gangs laud his idea, though he is fatally shot by the Rogues leader, Luther; the murder contributes to the gangs enragement and after Luther frames the Warriors for the murder, Cleon is savagely beaten by the Riffs. With Cleon's fate unknown to the other Warriors, they escape and Swan takes charge of the group and decides to head to their turf. Cyrus' death sends anger and shock throughout the whole of New York City. Unbeknownst to the Warriors, the Riffs calls a hit on them on the radio DJ, while the gangs are enraged by their president's murder that they decide to rid the lives of the Warriors once and for all.
