One team the world will be looking out for in the women's world cup is the Atlas lionesses of Morocco.

Not only because they are coming in as underdogs, but most especially are an appropriate representation for Arab girls willing to play this male dominated sports soccer.

I need not remind you that patriarchy norms , discrimination, sexism are still a problem in the middle east, making it difficult for aspiring women footballers to practice this sports.

But with Morocco's participation, many will see the need to leave their girls to freely play football.



Ghizlaine Chebbak n teammates qualified for this tournament after winning silver in the 2022 women's Africa cup of nations, hosted in Morocco.

A feat that was possible following the enormous investment by the royal Moroccan football federation.

The lionesses were almost inexistent after their 2000 women's Africa cup of nations participation.They only resurface in the Arab women's cup in 2006 following their second place finish.

Champions of the UNAF women's championship in 2020 and bronze medalist in the 2019, African games , the world finally got to see a different Moroccan side in 2022 when they hosted the women's Africa cup of nations

Worthy of note is the enormous investment came with some structural reforms like the creation of a women second tier championship, which helped paved the way for many players.

Grouped with two-time champions Germany, Republic of Korea and Colombia, Morocco will not find life easy in the world cup.
