The head of the BBC has branded the disgraced newsreader's crimes 'appalling' and said he wants to recover part of his salary.

Edwards received a six month suspended sentence on Monday after admitting to having images of child sex abuse on his phone, two of which showed a boy aged between seven and nine.

Edwards was arrested back in November. He was paid about £200,000 after that. And yesterday, director general Tim Davie said the BBC has asked Edwards to give that money back.

However, during a talk with BBC journalist Amol Rajan, he defended the decision to continue paying Edwards until he resigned in April,.
