Ghost in the Machine è il quarto album in studio del gruppo musicale Inglese The Police, pubblicato il 2 ottobre 1981 dalla A&M Records.
L'album è stato registrato agli Air Studios di Montserrat nei Caraibi, prodotto dai Police insieme a Hugh Padgham. Il quarto album dei Police è caratterizzato da un suono più pieno e funky, ispirato da alcuni scritti del filosofo Arthur Koestler, dal libro "Il fantasma dentro la macchina" (The Ghost in the Machine) da cui prende ispirazione il titolo dell'album.
Per la prima volta nella musica del gruppo entrano in scena suoni di sintetizzatore e sassofono, quest'ultimo suonato dallo stesso Sting. I primi tre brani si distinguono per la presenza dei sintetizzatori e la loro atmosfera cupa. Le successive tracce sono invece caratterizzate dal sassofono e un suono più funky.

Ghost in the Machine is the fourth studio album by the English band The Police, released on October 2, 1981 by A & M Records.
The album was recorded at the Air Studios Montserrat in the Caribbean, produced by the Police along with Hugh Padgham. The fourth Police album is characterized by a fuller and funky sound, inspired by some writings by the philosopher Arthur Koestler, from the book "The ghost inside the car" (The Ghost in the Machine) from which the album's title takes its inspiration.
For the first time in the group's music, synthesizer and saxophone sounds come into play, the latter being played by Sting himself. The first three songs are distinguished by the presence of synthesizers and their dark atmosphere. The subsequent tracks are instead characterized by the saxophone and a more funky sound.
