Two-Course Sandwich (1958) on Sandwiches of History⁣

When is a sandwich a complete meal? One can argue when it’s a triple decker or maybe a hero. Well, the good folks behind 1958’s Good Housekeeping’s Book of Breads and Sandwiches had other ideas. No, they wanted to make one sandwich with both sweet and savory filling. Of course, this idea has been around for along time but usually the whole thing would be baked and handed of to miners or men working in the tin factory. The outer pastry being more about a protective shell than a tasty bread. But I dig this idea applied to sandwiches. And am a little surprised I haven’t seen big sandwich chain give it a go. Oh and the hot dog bun in the final picture looks worked because it was frozen. I try not to waste food so…yeah.
